Counting Down to the Platinum Jubilee

As the nation looks forward to Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we’re delighted to give you a glimpse into our specially created Platinum Jubilee collection, as we unveil the first UK 50p coin to celebrate a royal event. The coin’s obverse features a commemorative portrait of The Queen and the reverse features the number 70, including The Queen’s cypher framed within the ‘0’, at the heart of the design, which represents the length of The Queen’s reign.

We’ll soon reveal two more beautifully decorative  designs, including a crowned depiction of the Royal Arms accompanied by the years 1952 and 2022. Another regal design will appear on a number of the premium coins in the collection through a crowned depiction of the Royal Cypher surrounded by the floral emblems of the United Kingdom. These coins also feature a special jubilee portrait on the obverse.

Our celebrations don’t just include coins. On Friday, 26 November 2021, we added to The Queen’s Green Canopy – an initiative that involves planting trees to mark the Platinum Jubilee.  You can read more about this event here.

We are also launching our Platinum Jubilee Countdown and each day, we will be revealing a new fact about The Queen’s remarkable life and reign.

On 6 February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee.

In 1977, we marked The Queen’s Silver Jubilee with a coin that found its way into countless memory boxes. The coin was the prime memento of the occasion and came to symbolise the national mood of celebration and togetherness, the bunting and numerous street parties, and the time spent with family and friends.

In 2002, we struck coins for The Queen’s Golden Jubilee as the United Kingdom revelled once more. There can be no forgetting the sights and sounds of 2012 – the year of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which saw the public paint the town red, white and blue throughout the summer.

Reaching a Platinum Jubilee is an unrivalled achievement for Her Majesty. To celebrate the occasion, we have created one of our largest coin collections to date with some of Britain’s most experienced coinage artists, engravers and craftspeople.
