He supported paleo-artist Robert Nicholls to make sure the designs of our 2024 Iconic Specimens coin range are scientifically up to date and realistic. Coins and The Sea: Pirate May-hem

Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th May. Drop in any time: 11am to 3:30pm.

Two pesky pirates will be causing mischief this May at The Royal Mint Experience to celebrate the opening of our brand-new exhibition, Coins and The Sea. Join them for fun, laughter and a historical journey that will take you 20,000 leagues under the sea. Our pirates will be based in our Coins and The Sea exhibition. All you need to meet them is an a tour admission ticket or an exhibition only ticket!

Brand New Exhibition: Coins And The Sea

From Saturday 25th May 2024

Prepare to set sail on a voyage that will transport you from the Royal Mint Experience to 20,000 leagues under the sea. Dive into the history of coins and their place on the high seas. Find out why people went to sea and what everyday life on ships was like. Why do we have such strong links to the sea on our coins? And did pirates really bury their treasure?

Step on board to explore the history of Coins and the sea, and discover stories of trade and treasure. Visit Coins and the Sea from Saturday 25th May 2024!

This May, we're launching our brand-new exhibition, Coins And The Sea; To celebrate, we’re hosting this swashbuckling craft! Let your imagination soar to far-off places with your own parrot companion; paint, build and embark on adventures with this hands-on craft!  Just £3 per parrot or FREE when booking a tour or exhibition ticket on the same day.

Exhibition: When War Came to The Rhondda

Tuesday 21st May – Friday 28th June 2024. Drop in any time: 9:30am to 4pm.

War broke out on the 3rd September 1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany. This led to 6 years of fighting and struggles. Here we tell the story of what happened in the Rhondda during this time. The story of the ordinary people, who joined together during an extraordinary time.

Kindly on loan from the heritage team of the Rhondda Cynon Taf council. Presented in both English and Welsh. This exhibition will take place in our visitor centre. It is FREE for all and no booking is required.
