It’s time to unveil The Sovereign 2021, and this year our eagerly awaited flagship coin marks a unique moment in royal and British history. The Sovereign has marked many important moments for Her Majesty The Queen throughout the years, and now the coin of the monarch features two special elements in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 95th birthday. A unique privy mark appears on the classic golden coin, and its milled edge has precisely 95 mills, each symbolising a year of The Queen’s life.
Celebrate the Birth of an Era, 200 years on, with a Half-Sovereign set
The Sovereign was first introduced in 1489 when Henry VII demanded a ‘new money of gold’ to represent the power of his reign. Issued by every monarch who followed until early in James I's reign, the coinage reforms of 1816 brought forth a new Sovereign, featuring Benedetto Pistrucci’s masterful St George and the dragon design.
