This 1849 silver florin is a one-year issue of the ‘Godless’ type, denoted by the lack of the inscription ‘DEI GRATIA’, meaning ‘by the grace of God’. At the time this was released, the lack of this traditional inscription caused controversy, and was added on to the design for future florins. This is also a rare variant of the ‘Godless’ florin that has an obliterated inscription of WW to denote the engraver William Wyon RA. This silver florin is in a minimum of Almost Very Fine condition.
