To mark 100 years of Remembrance Day, The Royal Mint has procured a selection of historic coins from 1919 – the year of the first Remembrance Day ceremony. It was for that day that George V issued a proclamation declaring a two-minute silence, during which ‘all locomotion should cease, so that, in perfect stillness, the thoughts of everyone may be concentrated on reverent remembrance of the glorious dead.’

Bertram Mackennal's portrait of George V is to be found on the obverse of each of the historic coins, whereas the reverses feature the numismatic art of Leonard Charles Wyon, George William de Saulles and Jean Baptiste Merlen. Each of the coins will be special in its appearance, having aged differently from one another, ensuring that your collection is a keepsake with unique character.

Joining these historic coins is The Remembrance Day 2019 UK £5 Silver Proof Coin. Struck in 925 sterling silver and finished to the highest standard available from The Royal Mint, it features a new design by artist Harry Brockway.
