The Ultimate Tribute to an Historic Moment in Royal History
70 years ago, 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey witnessed the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh. 200 million more tuned in to the live radio broadcast and thousands stood on The Mall to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. To mark the happy occasion more than 2,500 wedding gifts and 10,000 telegrams arrived from around the world. The numbers are staggering, even today.
70 years later we celebrate the longest royal marriage in British history with the most exclusive coin in this specially-struck collection. This 100mm diameter coin is struck in one kilo of fine gold. The coin’s Proof finish showcases two new designs, the first by artist Etienne Millner, whose combined portrait features on the obverse, with John Bergdahl’s double shield design on the reverse.
*This nostalgic gift is a reproduction of the book released in 1947, containing details and beautiful photographs from the special day. The book will only accompany the platinum Piedfort, gold and silver kilo, and gold five-ounce editions of the platinum wedding anniversary coins purchased directly from The Royal Mint.
