The Royal Mint has announced the launch of the new United Kingdom precious metal Proof coin sets for 2015 containing the nation’s definitive and commemorative coins for the year. Struck to an exceptional standard highlighting every design detail, they are available in Gold Proof, Silver Proof or Silver Proof Piedfort editions. In what is likely to be a vintage year for British coinage, this is the last chance for collectors to own a Royal Mint precious metal Proof coin set bearing the fourth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.

Each one of the 2015 UK coins featured in The Royal Mint’s precious metal Proof sets is a snapshot of Britain through time, with themes for 2015 including the 50th anniversary of the death of Winston Churchill, the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta and the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The Royal Mint’s programme of commemoration marking the centenary of the First World War continues with a coin that honours the Royal Navy and the role that it played during the war.

Shane Bissett, Director of Commemorative Coin, Bullion and Medals at The Royal Mint, says: “The launch of The Royal Mint’s precious metal Proof sets is an eagerly anticipated annual event, but this year’s release marks the beginning of a memorable year for the UK’s coinage – these are the last precious metal coin sets to bear the current effigy of Elizabeth II, so are likely to be sought after by collectors and by those looking for a gift to mark a special year.”

The Royal Mint’s four precious metal Proof coin sets for 2015 include perennial favourites, The 2015 United Kingdom Gold Proof and The 2015 United Kingdom Silver Proof coin sets, which both feature precious metal renditions of the commemorative coins for the year. In addition, the Silver Proof set contains silver versions of the 2015 United Kingdom definitive (circulating) coins, whilst The 2015 United Kingdom Silver Proof Piedfort Set sports the Piedfort edition of the commemorative coin designs. The 2015 United Kingdom Silver Proof Commemorative Coin Set displays the commemorative coin designs in Silver Proof finish, as its name suggests.
