1887 Victoria Jubilee Sovereign
Just like the Golden Jubilee of our own Queen Elizabeth II, the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne was a focus for national and international celebration. Britain’s empire was at its height; heads of state, kings and princes attended the banquets and services held in her honour and soldiers from across the globe joined a grand procession to Westminster Abbey, which made its way through crowded streets. A new coinage portrait of the 68 year-old queen was created by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm, who depicted The Queen with a small crown in the effigy that became known as the ‘Jubilee Head’. This majestic Sovereign from the glorious Jubilee year itself is now available direct from The Royal Mint.
