Team-spirited staff from The Royal Mint in Llantrisant have raised nearly £45,000 for the Vale of Glamorgan’s leading UK paediatric palliative care charity, Tŷ Hafan, during its two year spell as their chosen staff charity.

Money was raised through a range of activities, including triathlons and raffles, and sales of strawberries and cream in the Wimbledon fortnight. A cycle challenge saw employees tackle a relay of more than 400 miles on a static bike, with some members of staff cycling for up to an hour to help raise vital funds - this challenge alone raised an impressive £924.69.

Amongst individual activities, staff member Daniela Jones undertook a triathlon, whilst Michelle Jones participated in the Rainbow Run in Porthcawl, cheered on by further employees who volunteered at the event. All sponsorship from both events helped raise vital funds for the hospice.

Tŷ Hafan provides comfort, care and support to life-limited children and their families throughout Wales.  The charity takes its support right into the family home and is there to help families through every step of their unimaginable journey. For Tŷ Hafan to offer this unique service completely free of charge to families in Wales, it has to raise more than £4 million every year.

The Royal Mint’s Chief Executive, Adam Lawrence said, “We are delighted at the enthusiasm and generosity shown by The Royal Mint employees in their fundraising for Tŷ Hafan - the support that the hospice provides for youngsters and their families is phenomenal.”

“It has been a pleasure to work alongside this charity for the last two years, and we hope that our contribution can go towards helping families in Wales, providing care and comfort for their children.”

Alison Stallard, Tŷ Hafan’s Head of Regional Fundraising, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Royal Mint for their phenomenal fundraising efforts over the last two years.  The funds raised will support life-limited children and their families in communities across Wales and at our hospice in Sully. We can’t say thank you enough for everything the staff have done and we are truly humbled by what they have achieved for Tŷ Hafan.”
