Tigger

“Bouncing is What Tiggers do Best…”

Meet Tigger – the fun-loving character who joins the gang in the second Winnie the Pooh storybook, The House at Pooh Corner. When Tigger bounced into the Hundred Acre Wood, Pooh Bear and his friends took him into their homes and their hearts, and he remains one of the most popular characters from the stories. Tigger appears on the sixth coin in our Winnie the Pooh and Friends 50p Coin Collection. The very energetic friend has been captured in one of E. H. Shepard’s original illustrations along with the buzzy bee that unites all the coins in the series.

Historic Highlight

1926 Sovereign. Issued in the year that Winnie The Pooh was first published.

Methuen & Co. published the First UK Edition in 1926. The edition features a publisher’s folding map and bound in blue paper boards. Illustrations were by E.H. Shepard.

The coin depicts the portrait of King George V by Bertram Mackennal, an Australian sculptor and medallist, most famous for designing the coinage and stamps bearing the likeness of George V.

The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's timeless masterpiece, a depiction of St George and the dragon, which was created for the new gold Sovereign of 1817.
