A Platinum Tribute to 70 years of Love and Loyalty

In July 1947 an official announcement confirmed the engagement of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. The photographs taken at Buckingham Palace show Philip in a smart, naval suit and Princess Elizabeth wearing an elegant engagement ring. It featured square cut diamonds taken from Philip’s mother’s tiara, set in precious platinum.

Platinum has been part of this royal love story from the beginning, so it makes a fitting tribute on their 70th wedding anniversary. This Piedfort coin’s double thickness creates an impressive setting for Etienne Millner’s combined portrait on its obverse. The reverse features John Bergdahl’s double shield design, depicting the heraldic lineage of the two families that became entwined when the couple married.

*This nostalgic gift is a reproduction of the book released in 1947, containing details and beautiful photographs from the special day. The book will only accompany the platinum Piedfort, gold and silver kilo, and gold five-ounce editions of the Platinum Wedding Anniversary coins purchased directly from The Royal Mint. While stocks last
