Immerse Yourself in an Ancient Chinese Tradition
Were you born in the Year of the Pig?
1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019
People born in the Year of the Pig are gentle, selfless and loyal. They are also known to be diligent, compassionate and generous.
A beautiful fusion of British and Chinese heritage and craftsmanship with delightful designs, The Shēngxiào Collection celebrates the wonderful, age-old customs of the Chinese zodiac.
Bringing more than a millennium of minting experience to ancient Chinese traditions, The Royal Mint launched the first official United Kingdom lunar coin in 2014. Each year since, we have added to the collection by releasing a coin marking the individual milestones of the lunar calendar.
The pig is the sixth design in the series, which signals the end of the cycle, starting anew in 2020. Harry Brockway, the coin’s designer, has ensured qualities of people born in the Year of the Pig – loyalty, generosity, compassion and diligence – are evident in the design. The pig appears once every 12 years in the Chinese lunar calendar, making this is a unique opportunity to mark this special milestone.
