Sustainability at The Royal Mint

Now, more than ever, sustainability is of strategic importance for our business. Sustainability is one of eight corporate themes in our five-year plan, alongside complimentary themes such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the preservation of British craftsmanship and home of precious metals. In support of that, we have established a Sustainability Framework built around key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations. Everyone at The Royal Mint has a role to play, and we have a dedicated Sustainability team to help guide and support.

 
 

A Sustainable Future

We are committed to developing innovative solutions in the precious metals industry to support a circular economy, lower our carbon footprint and drive responsible sourcing practices.

In October 2023, we held our first Net Zero Week to get involved and educate our staff on this important topic. During the events, we invited guest speakers, facilitated guided tours of our local energy centre, and delivered a range of activities, offering valuable insights into our decarbonisation journey.

Enhancing our Community

As the original maker, we want to revive and showcase British craftsmanship in the precious metals industry whilst proudly supporting our local and wider communities. Retaining and creating opportunities for our employees is essential to our success. We partner with organisations supporting these aims, such as Heritage Crafts, Careers Wales, and our formal charity partner, selected by a staff vote every two years. We also provide the ‘Give A Day’ volunteering initiative, allowing employees to contribute to the community or fundraise for charitable causes.

We are committed to ensuring sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Striving to make a measurable difference every year, we aim to champion leadership, collaboration, transparency and accountability.

We maintain a number of formal accreditations and memberships, collaborating with partners that support our goal to become leaders in sustainable precious metals. Supported by robust management systems, appropriate codes of conduct and enhanced progress reporting, we want everyone to feel empowered and supported to make sustainability-informed decisions.
