1925 George V Sovereign

1925 was the year of the births of Margaret Thatcher, Peter Sellers and Paul Newman, a year that saw then Chancellor of the Exchequer and Master of the Mint, Winston Churchill, announce that Britain would return to the gold standard. Since the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Sovereign production had declined, the coin minted mainly by branch mints from 1916.

In 1925 Sovereigns were struck in London, South Africa, Melbourne and Perth, but the Perth issue from 1925 has by far the lowest output from that year.
