A Symbol of Excellence: The Half-Sovereign for 2019
From its introduction in 1489 to its rebirth in 1816 and its popularity today, The Sovereign’s story has been one of endurance and excellence. The coin’s reputation for unrivalled accuracy and Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic design helped it become ‘the chief coin of the world’ during the nineteenth century. However, just 100 years ago the use of gold coins as currency during the First World War stopped.
Occasional releases to mark special royal events kept the story alive and today The Sovereign goes from strength to strength. The Half-Sovereign 2019 is struck in 22 carat gold and finished to The Royal Mint’s highest Proof standard.
Having struck Sovereigns for over 500 years, we have gained unrivalled knowledge and expertise about this global icon. Now we would like to share our insight with you and invite you on a journey with us where we will give access to content, experiences and exclusive competitions available to registered Sovereign customers.
