The Sovereign is a coin steeped in history, dating back to the reign of Henry VII. This denomination was struck at the Bombay branch of The Royal Mint for one year in 1918 during the reign of George V, and again between the years of 2013 and 2020 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The classic Benedetto Pistrucci design features on the reverse, with the letter ‘I’ added above the date to denote the branch mint where it was struck.
This Bullion Sovereign was produced in India during 2014 to the same specifications as UK Sovereigns, with a weight of 7.98 grams and struck in 22 carat gold. The reverse features the letter ‘I’ above the date, just like the historic Indian Sovereigns. The obverse features the fourth definitive portrait of Her Majesty, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
