The 1887 Gold Two Pounds coin is an uncommon and significant piece from Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee year. This particular specimen features the Jubilee crowned bust of Victoria facing left, with the distinctive angled J in J.E.B. initials on the truncation. The obverse die is notable for its rarity, with the B of BRITT almost touching the second pearl in the crown and eight pearls in each crown arch.

The obverse legend reads "VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D:" without an indent at the rear of the bust for the final colon. The reverse depicts St George slaying the dragon, with the date in the exergue and a tiny B.P. to the upper right, representing Benedetto Pistrucci, the original designer.

This coin is particularly noteworthy as it represents the rarest currency variation of the Jubilee Double Sovereign. It has been graded by PCGS as MS61 PL (Mint State 61, Proof-Like), indicating its high quality and proof-like appearance.

The 1887 Two Pounds coin was the first Double Sovereign of Victoria's reign, with a reported mintage of 91,345 for the calendar year.

For coin enthusiasts and collectors, this piece represents a rare opportunity to own a unique part of British numismatic history, combining the significance of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee with an exceptionally scarce die variety.
