This coin has the honour of being the first-ever 24k gold coin released to the public by the United States Mint. The design is based on a circulated US coin known as the Indian Head nickel by James Earle Fraser. The reverse shows the Buffalo, where the coin gets its name from, with the reverse depicting a Native America with the legend ‘Liberty’ in the top right of the coin.
