The Morgan Dollar is one of the most famous coins in American history. However, the designer of one of the most iconic US coins was in fact British. George T. Morgan was born close to Birmingham in 1845 and, under the tutorage of William Wyon RA, would go on to become a contract engraver for The Royal Mint until he was contacted by the US Mint and appointed special engraver in Philadelphia.
Morgan Dollars were issued between 1878 and 1921, meaning that this 1921 dollar was amongst one of the last to be produced.
