Celebrate the many communities that have shaped the nation with the 2020 UK ‘Diversity Built Britain’ 50p coin. Issued as the first coin in a new series, this design recognises the strength and unity that comes from the rich diversity of people across the United Kingdom.

The reverse design by Dominique Evans features a geometric network inspired by a geodesic dome. Formed from interconnecting lines and triangles, the design symbolises how individual communities come together to create something stronger as a whole. Each element is equal and connected, reflecting the idea that diversity is at the heart of Britain’s story. The inscription ‘DIVERSITY BUILT BRITAIN’ sits within the design, reinforcing this powerful message.

This coin also marks an important moment in modern UK coinage, highlighting contributions that have helped shape the country’s identity. Its contemporary design and meaningful theme make it particularly appealing to collectors interested in coins that reflect social history and modern Britain.

The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, showing the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem. This portrait appears on all UK circulating coins of the period.

Struck in cupro-nickel to standard 50p specifications, the coin weighs 8 grams and measures 27.30 millimetres in diameter, with a thickness of 1.8 millimetres. It features the distinctive seven-sided shape and a plain edge.

Issued in 2020, this 50p coin represents a thoughtful addition to UK commemorative coinage, combining a modern design with a message of unity and shared identity that continues to resonate today.
