This commemorative £5 coin was designed as part of a six-coin series: Celebration of Britain – The Mind Collection. This coin celebrates one of the greatest scientific minds in history – Sir Isaac Newton. One of his many achievements was developing the theory of gravity. As well as his work as a mathematician and physicist, Sir Isaac Newton also served as the Master of the Mint for nearly 30 years until his death in 1727.
The £5 coin is struck in sterling silver to Proof condition. The obverse features the fourth coinage portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The reverse features a design celebrating the achievements of Sir Isaac Newton with the inscription ‘Make not your thoughts your prisons’.
