As part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002, The Royal Mint released a series of commemorative coins to mark Elizabeth II’s fifty years as monarch. This commemorative £5 crown features one-off obverse and reverse designs, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, which were only used for this issue. The obverse shows a youthful equestrian portrait of Her Majesty. This bears similarities to the motif that appeared on the reverse of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown. The reverse features an unusual bust in which The Queen looks over her shoulder.
The Queen is now the longest-reigning British monarch, and in the year that she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, this £5 crown is a fantastic addition to any commemorative collection of a remarkable reign.
