A Laurel is a gold coin which was worth 20 shillings and they were only struck during the reign of James I. Featuring the third bust of James I, this coin is a Spur Rowel Laurel which was the first variety of Laurel to be issued. The Spur Rowel mint mark was reserved exclusively for gold coins and indicates that a coin was struck between 20 August 1619 until 31 March 1620.
