George V was the monarch who was never meant to be king, as he became heir to the throne after the death of his eldest brother, Prince Albert Victor. During his reign, George V united the country under the new familial name of Windsor following the outbreak of the First World War.

The half-crown was a popular denomination when it was used in circulation but there was some speculation that the introduction of the florin would make it obsolete. Sadly, this became the case in 1969 as a result of decimalisation.

This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain George V Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of the circulating coins of George V’s reign.
