George V acceded to throne after the death of his father, Edward VII. Whereas his father had been excluded from matters of state throughout his role as heir to the throne, George V was very much involved. His reign saw a new era for the monarchy, adopting the familial name of Windsor in the face of the First World War.
The florin was an early attempt at decimalisation, with a value of 1/10 of a pound. The reverse of this George V florin features heraldic motifs that depict the four quarters of the Shield of the Royal Arms.
This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain George V Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of the circulating coins of George V’s reign.
