George V was the second-born son of Edward VII and became heir to throne after the sudden death of his older brother Albert Victor. The First World War overshadowed George V’s reign and during this time, the British monarchy become a symbol of national unity.

A unique crown was produced for George V’s Silver Jubilee. Known as the ‘rocking horse’ design, the reverse design of the coin depicted St George slaying the dragon, with the face of the saint bearing a remarkable resemblance to its designer, Percy Metcalfe.

This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain George V Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of the circulating coins of George V’s reign.
