This 1926 bronze medal commemorates John Anderson, the natural philosopher and educator whose work helped shape scientific learning in Scotland. Designed by J. Macdonald and struck in bronze, it is a substantial and well-made piece that will appeal to collectors of British medals and scientific figures.

The medal carries a portrait of John Anderson and is dated 1726–1796, recording the years of his birth and death. Although awarded in 1926, many years after his passing, it recognises his lasting contribution to natural philosophy and education. Anderson’s name is closely linked with the founding of Anderson’s University in Glasgow, an institution that continues his legacy today.

At 51 mm, this is a pleasingly large medal with good presence in the hand and on display. The bronze surface gives it a traditional, warm appearance, and the medal is in Extremely Fine condition, showing clear detail and a strong finish.

For collectors, this medal is especially interesting because it connects science, education and British medallic art in one object. It is a rewarding addition to any collection of commemorative medals, portraits of notable figures, or material connected with the history of science and higher learning.
