This attractive medal marks the Art Treasures Exhibition held in Manchester in 1857, one of the great cultural events of the Victorian age. Struck in white metal and preserved in an embossed metallic case, it has a refined presentation that adds to its appeal and makes it especially desirable for collectors of exhibition medals and nineteenth-century British commemoratives.

The obverse shows three seated muses, a classical design that gives the medal an elegant and artistic feel. The reverse presents a view of the exhibition buildings, together with the inscription recording the opening of the Exhibition of Art Treasures at Manchester by His Royal Highness Prince Albert on 5 May 1857. This strong combination of imagery and text gives the medal a clear historical purpose and makes it a pleasing piece to study as well as to collect.

At 40 mm, the medal has a compact but satisfying format, and the white metal finish gives it a distinctive look typical of the period. For collectors, the embossed case is an especially appealing feature, as it enhances the original presentation and helps protect the piece. The medal is also a notable example of the work of John Pinches Medallist Ltd, a respected London maker with a long tradition of producing quality medals.

This is a medal with both cultural and historical importance, celebrating an exhibition that brought together important works of art and helped shape public interest in the arts during the nineteenth century. In Extremely Fine condition, it retains sharp detail and attractive surfaces, making it a fine example for any collector of Victorian medals or exhibition pieces.
