George III visited the theatre in 1800 to see a play, where an ex-soldier, James Hadfield, attempted to shoot the king. The assassination attempt was foiled by nearby orchestral members. This 1800 year-dated medal commemorates George III being preserved from this assassination attempt and is in Extremely Fine condition. The reverse shows an angel kneeling on clouds while holding a shield bearing the bust of George III. The obverse shows a crown resting on a laurel wreath, with rays of light shining down from above.
