Witnessing a significant number of societal, historical and technological changes for the United Kingdom during her reign, Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 at the age of 25. Reigning before and after decimalisation took place in 1971, she is the only monarch in British history to have had both a pre-decimal and decimal coinage.
The obverse of this Queen Elizabeth II sixpence features the first definitive coinage portrait of the monarch, whilst the coin’s reverse design depicts floral emblems from the four UK nations. A popular denomination during its time in circulation, it was reintroduced as a decimal coin in 2016 to be given as a gift for weddings, Christmas and christenings.
This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Queen Elizabeth II Pre-Decimal Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of Elizabeth II’s pre-decimal coins.
