The era of Queen Elizabeth II saw significant social and technological change for the United Kingdom, which had a lasting impact. Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 and is the only monarch in British history to have had both a pre-decimal and decimal coinage.

This Queen Elizabeth II Scottish shilling had the value of 12 pence, and there were 20 shillings to a pound. Unlike its English variant, the Scottish shilling features a heraldic motif of the Lion Rampant representing Scotland and which appears on the Royal Arms.

This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Queen Elizabeth II Pre-Decimal Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each pre-decimal coin of Elizabeth II’s reign.
