The Elizabethan era saw significant social and technological changes throughout the United Kingdom. Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 at the age of 25 and went on to become the only monarch in British history to have both a pre-decimal and decimal coinage.
The larger surface areas of this Queen Elizabeth II crown leant itself well to commemorating anniversaries or special occasions, such as Sir Winston Churchill’s passing in 1965. Following decimalisation, the crown was redenominated as a £5 coin.
This Elizabeth II Crown is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Queen Elizabeth II Pre-Decimal Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each pre-decimal coin of the monarch’s reign.
