Reigning from 1952 to September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II was a beloved monarch to many. Celebrating several unique milestones throughout her reign, Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning monarch in British history in 2015, superseding the record previously set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
The 20p coin was first introduced into circulation in 1982. Towards the end of the 1970s, pockets were full of change, and it was thought that a 20p coin would lower the amount of 10p coins in circulation. Its shape mimicked the larger denomination of the 50p coin and was the second coin with a seven-sided equilateral shape to enter UK circulation.
This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Queen Elizabeth II Decimal Bundle, which offers the opportunity to own an example of each of the decimal denominations of Elizabeth II’s reign.
