SHOP NEW COINS

The second Elizabethan era was a period of significant social, cultural and technological change for the United Kingdom, which had a lasting impact on the nation. Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne in 1952 and had five definitive coinage portraits throughout her impressive 70-year reign.

The 10p coin was first introduced to circulation preceding decimalisation. Circulated alongside their counterparts of the florin and the shilling respectively, 10p and 5p coins were produced to meet demand when decimalisation would take effect in 1971. The larger 10p coins were removed from circulation in 1992 and replaced with a smaller variant.

This coin is also available as part of The Making of Modern Britain Queen Elizabeth II Decimal Coin Bundle, which offers collectors the opportunity to own an example of each of the decimal denominations of Elizabeth II’s reign.
