Mary Poppins first blew in on an east wind to Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane more than 90 years ago. P. L. Travers’ extraordinary character went on to feature in eight books and became a much-loved childhood character who was brought to life in Mary Shepherd’s beautiful illustrations. Now, Emma Noble, a product designer at The Royal Mint, has remastered one of these original illustrations, which features both Mary Poppins’ umbrella and carpet bag, for the reverse of the coin.
