Born around 1618, he lived through the English Civil Wars, the rule of England’s only republic and the restoration of the monarchy. Weathering political storms and mastering new production techniques, he worked on the coinage of Charles I, the Commonwealth of England, and Charles II, producing a series of astonishing designs that rank amongst the finest in British numismatics.
