Read the Booklet

The Highlights of Benedetto Pistrucci Three-Coin Silver Set brings together three silver coins that pay homage to the Italian engraver. An original George III crown, dated between 1818 and 1820, and a George IV crown, dated between 1821 and 1824, are included in this set, each featuring the work of Benedetto Pistrucci on both the obverse and reverse.

Benedetto Pistrucci was first commissioned by William Wellesley Pole to design a coinage portrait of George III to be used on new coins for the Great Recoinage of 1816. He was then asked to work on a design of St George and the dragon to appear on the new Sovereigns of 1817, and this design later featured on the 1818 crown with some changes. A 2024 silver coin from our Great Engravers Collection displays a remastered design that first appeared on the 1818 crown.
