An original Celebratory Sovereign Set struck for Her Majestys Golden Jubilee

In 2017, Queen Elizabeth II is in her 91st year, is the world’s longest reigning living monarch and has marked the Sapphire Jubilee of her reign. Jubilee celebrations tend to bring the nation together. For the Golden Jubilee in 2002, the gardens of Buckingham Palace were opened for the Prom at the Palace, a classical concert, and the Party at the Palace, which began with Brian May playing God Save The Queen on the roof of the Palace.

The Royal Mint marked the occasion with this gold Proof set, struck in 2002. The set includes four coins: The Half-Sovereign, Sovereign, Double-Sovereign and Five-Sovereign Piece; all struck in 22 carat gold and presented in their original packaging. The reverses of these four celebratory editions are decorated with a shield of the Royal Arms, created by Timothy Noad – a design rarely struck on a Sovereign in the twentieth century.
