The first Britannia coin was issued by The Royal Mint in 1987, and Britannia Proof sets have been struck every year since, making this set from 1988 a release from the second year of issue. The reverse features Philip Nathan's iconic design of a standing Britannia with flowing robes, holding her shield and trident. Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Her Majesty The Queen is included on the obverse.
