This banknote was designed by Reynolds Stone and the depiction of a child Britannia on the notes reverse is said to have been modelled on his daughter.
The banknote features the signature of the 24th Chief Cashier, John Standish Fforde. After serving in the RAF as a pilot during WWII, Fforde entered bank service in 1957, rising to Advisor to the Governor in 1964 before being appointed Chief Cashier in 1966, a position he held until 1970.
