The Trial of the Pyx began during the reign of Edward I following the monarch’s passing of a statute that required the testing of the nation’s coinage to ensure it met a certain standard and to prevent counterfeiting. Whilst the testing processes used in today’s Trial are very modern, the ceremony itself remains steeped in numismatic history. Now, for the first time, we have taken gold and silver from coins used at the ceremony then refined and purified these precious metals to produce exclusive collectable bars.
