A Message from Anne Jessopp

As we embark on a new year, it’s the time that I reflect on what we’ve achieved as we continue to transform The Royal Mint.

2023 was a historic year for our nation’s coinage and in April, I was honoured to meet His Majesty King Charles III and present the coins struck to mark his coronation. In 2023 we completed our role of transitioning to the new monarch - creating a beautiful new circulating (definitive) set of UK coins. These coins are now starting to enter circulation and each design celebrates Britain’s natural habitat.

And that's only part of last year’s story. We’ve continued to evolve, adapt and lead in a fast-changing landscape. We focused on sustainability, opening our on-site Local Energy Centre with the aim of generating 70% of our energy from renewable and lower-carbon sources. And our decarbonisation ambitions and net-zero emissions targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Our luxury jewellery division 886 by The Royal Mint continues to showcase our leadership in sustainable precious metals. We were delighted to win a Country & Town House Award for Sustainable Jewellery Brand – and to appear on the front cover of Tatler magazine with the new Tutamen collection!

Our awards didn’t stop there. The Royal Mint Experience had its busiest-ever year and won Tourist Attraction of the Year at the Welsh Hospitality Awards; the Group Leisure Travel Awards; and a Travellers’ Choice Award by Tripadvisor.

We continued to champion and support British Craftsmanship – launching a partnership with the Heritage Crafts. It's heartening to see the talent we've supported flourish, safeguarding the future of traditional skills.

And we’ve been active in our local community. This Christmas we supported Rhondda Cynon Taf by collecting donations for a local food bank and giving presents to children who might not otherwise receive a gift.

I am also delighted to have been awarded a CBE for services to industry and the finance sector in the New Year Honours List. Being awarded a CBE is a huge honour and highlights the commitment and talent of everyone at The Royal Mint. By delivering the official coinage of King Charles III we have played our part in history and marked an important moment for the nation.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our team and the unending support of our networks. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. I am grateful to lead a business that is open to change and the new opportunities that brings. Here's to a new year filled with endless possibilities, groundbreaking initiatives, and continued growth!
