The White Lion of Mortimer, also known as the White Lion of March, ties to the Marches, or borderlands of Wales. Intriguingly, it was in the Marches that the first of the Yorkist kings, Edward IV. As is also the case with the Black Bull of Clarence (depicted on the fourth release in The Queen's Beasts Collection), it is through Edward IV that the White Lion of Mortimer comes to Her Late Majesty The Queen. However, the heraldic beast's history traces back even further than Edward IV’s reign, coming to him through his grandmother, Anne Mortimer.
Throughout The Queen's Beasts Collection, the one ounce gold edition has proven to be particularly popular. Finished to Proof standard, the coin is an exemplar of the world-renowned precision and attention to detail for which The Royal Mint is known.
