Celebrate Ten Years of The Quarter-Sovereign
The Sovereign has been linked to royalty from the day it was first struck during the reign of Henry VII in 1489 and given a name that connected it to the monarch. The gold coin has gone on to become famous all over the world and has featured the portrait of every British king and queen of the last 200 years on its obverse. It has moved with the ebbs and flows of history, surviving numerous challenges along the way.
That ability to adapt to new trends and customs continued in 2009 when The Royal Mint first issued The Quarter-Sovereign; ten years later it remains the smallest coin in the collection. Featuring Pistrucci’s classic rendition of St George and the dragon it is a real work of art in miniature, especially when finished to our finest Proof standard. Each coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity that guarantees it was struck at The Royal Mint, the home of The Sovereign.
