Remember, for Generations to Come
Remembrance Day began in 1919 to honour the sacrifices of soldiers in the First World War and ceremonies have taken place at war memorials ever since. This annual event gives us the opportunity to come together to remember those touched by the long shadow of war, and give thanks to those who continue to risk their lives to protect our freedom today. Traditionally appearing on an Alderney coin, this 2017 tribute from The Royal Mint has been struck on an official United Kingdom £5 coin. The reverse design was created by Royal Mint graphic designer Stephen Taylor, whose realistic poppies are highlighted in the coin’s vibrant colour printing. Just 5000 silver Proof coins are available struck in 925 sterling silver and finished to Proof standard. A donation from every coin purchased will be made to Imperial War Museums to help them continue their important work.
