2017 marks the 20th anniversary since the Britannia silver bullion coin was first released. To mark this occasion, the original design by Phillip Nathan has been updated to include an anniversary mark to denote the respective anniversary and the coin is limited to a production of 120,000. The obverse of the coin also includes the introduction of a new guilloché finish, providing an additional level of security for investors.
The Silver Britannia 1 ounce Bullion coin is one of the most popular silver coins for UK based private investors, as they are CGT exempt in the United Kingdom.
This Britannia range is produced to ‘Bullion’ specifications which mean it has a similar standard of finish to circulating coins. Bullion coins are sold at a small premium over and above the metal price which means that many purchase them purely on their intrinsic value (as investment-grade precious metals). The Britannia is also available in proof and brilliant uncirculated finishes and collectable versions of this coin are also available from the Royal Mint which are produced to different specifications.
