Celebrate 65 years of Loyalty and Affection
The official coin for the United Kingdom’s first Sapphire Jubilee
Jubilees are milestone events, held in significant years in Her Majesty The Queen’s reign. The memories continue long after the bunting has been taken down and street parties cleared away. Various places were named after the Silver Jubilee: the Jubilee line of the London Underground, even though it didn’t open until 1979, the Silver Jubilee Walkway around London, the Jubilee Gardens in South Bank and many streets and buildings across the country.
Jubilee coins are an important part of the official national celebrations, and to mark The Queen becoming the first and only British monarch to celebrate 65 years on the throne, the Palace has approved a Sapphire Jubilee design for the £5 coin. It is available struck in 925 sterling silver, finished to Proof standard, and just 8,000 editions are available. For this special occasion, former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond has shared her thoughts on some of the qualities that have made Her Majesty so popular in the booklet that comes with the coin.
