Spot the Top: The Royal Mint launches Ultimate UK MONOPOLY Coin Hunt

- London transformed into a human-sized MONOPOLY board as a giant silver Top Hat toured the capital
- 100 new commemorative MONOPOLY 50p coins up for grabs for those who ‘Spotted the Top’ at 15 of the iconic board game locations

Today, London’s streets were turned into a real-life MONOPOLY board as fans hunted a giant silver Top Hat to mark the release of The Royal Mint’s new collectible MONOPOLY 50p coin in collaboration with Hasbro, a leading games, IP and toy company, to mark the game’s 90th anniversary.
Standing an impressive two metres tall and weighing over 16 kilograms, a gleaming silver Top Hat, identical to the classic MONOPOLY game piece but magnified over 100 times its original size, embarked on an epic journey across London's most famous landmarks.
The colossal gaming icon – created by the Masked Singer costumiers, Plunge – required specialist transportation and drew crowds of amazed onlookers as it visited 15 MONOPOLY board locations throughout the day.
Members of the public were challenged to join the Ultimate UK MONOPOLY Coin Hunt and ‘Spot the Top’ to be in with a chance of randomly winning one of 100 new coins.
Starting bright and early on the Strand, clues were dropped throughout the day to the Top Hat's whereabouts, sending players on a frantic 10km chase across the capital via the iconic MONOPOLY board locations.
To be in with a chance of winning, hopeful players had to snap the moving Top Hat and share a picture on their social platforms – using #MONOPOLY50p. The hunt's scale was amplified by a simultaneous digital treasure hunt across The Royal Mint's website – with nine digital coins – ensuring players nationwide could participate in this historic gaming event.
In total, winners were rewarded with 90 freshly minted coins, plus nine silver editions, one made of solid gold, worth more than £4,000 in total.

The collectible MONOPOLY 50p coin has been produced in collaboration with Hasbro and features MONOPOLY-themed design elements, including iconic game pieces.
