The Royal Mint’s jewellery brand, 886 by The Royal Mint, has launched its first engagement and bridal collection, marking the latest step in the transformation of one of the UK’s oldest institutions.

Established in 2022 with a focus on sustainable luxury, 886 by The Royal Mint demonstrates how heritage brands can diversify successfully into new markets.

The collection, featuring wedding bands, engagement rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, is crafted entirely from 18ct gold, sustainably sourced from end-of-life electronic waste and recovered onsite at The Royal Mint’s facility in South Wales.

The pioneering Reformation Metals site, which opened in August 2024, uses world-first patented chemistry developed by Canadian clean-tech company Excir, to recover precious metals from circuit boards in discarded electronics such as mobile phones and laptops – transforming e-waste into luxury jewellery designed to celebrate milestone moments.

Anne Jessopp, Chief Executive of The Royal Mint, said: "This collection marks a pivotal moment in The Royal Mint's transformation as we expand beyond our traditional boundaries into new luxury markets.

“By combining our 1,100-year heritage of precious metal expertise with cutting-edge technology, we're demonstrating how historic institutions can lead the way in sustainable innovation."

Dominic Jones, 886 Creative Director and designer of the collection, said: “The Royal Mint has a remarkable heritage yet continues to evolve in ways that feel truly relevant today.

“Designing the first Engagement and Bridal Collection using recovered gold from electronic waste reflects our commitment to sustainability and innovation, and I’m proud to contribute to a collection where heritage meets sustainable luxury.”

Each piece from the collection is gifted with an X-ray silver Sixpence – a modern take on the traditional good-luck charm, crafted from silver recycled from medical and industrial X-ray films through The Royal Mint’s partnership with Betts Metals, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

The bridal collection is available from 29 September at the Burlington Arcade flagship boutique in London and online at 886.royalmint.com.
