The Titanic’s sister ship the RMS Olympic launched her successful maiden voyage, 10 months before the RMS Titanic’s fateful journey.

One of the most influential presidents in American history and the man who would play a key role in ending the cold war, Ronald Reagan was born.

And in 1911, Emmeline Pankhurst called on her followers to boycott the national census in her campaign to secure the vote for women. The suffragettes would go on that year to storm parliament with over 220 women and 3 men were arrested.

However, the standout event was the coronation of King George V on the 22nd of June 1911 at Westminster Abbey.

The British Empire was approaching its peak and so the event was attended by the royal representatives of all the great European empires, the last time that such a large contingent of royalty would attend a British coronation. By the time of the next coronation in 1937, World War One had led to the abolition of most other European monarchies.

For collectors of Sovereigns, first-year dated coronation editions are amongst the most collectable and desirable and we have managed to source just a small number of the 1911 Sovereigns struck in London.
